There are many tracks and here are 2 good sites to visit:http://www.incallander.co.uk/trossachscycling.htm The nearest mountain-bike routes start at Braeval car park, just before the Aberfoyle golf course, on the right, as you head into Aberfoyle from Lochend. Here you can cycle up onto the Boundary Fault Line, there are clearly marked routes and some new ones built this year. My brother, Nick's, favourites are in the Loch Achray forest trail. This can be reached by driving up the Dukes Pass, as described earlier, and after 4 miles or so out of Aberfoyle, turning right into the car park.
There is also a nice family trail going from Milton, just outside Aberfoyle, and this takes you past the wee Lochan Spling, where a large metallic pike jumps out the water!! The trail has 8 artworks to spot from mirrored foxes to Jedi squirrels! For another family trail for those with younger children, park where you would for the Aberfoyle village play park, and follow the leafy trail, which is the beginning of an old railway track leading close to the next village, Gartmore, it's approximately 4 miles there. Another fabulous bike journey - this one for the fairly active family - can be had 25 minutes from Lochend, taking a Victorian steamer all the way to Stronachlachar at the western end of Loch Katrine, and cycling the 14 miles back on a largely traffic-free tarmac road, undulating along between loch and ben. For boat times and bookings contact Loch Katrine (01877 332000 ,http://www.scottish-cycling.com/ ); bikes, trailers, tandems and tagalongs can be hired from Katrinewheelz at Loch Katrine Pier (01877 376366, www.katrinewheelz.co.uk ), and taken onto the steamship
About 15 miles north-west of Lochend, Carron
Dam has a proper mountain bike centre especially good for
more experienced riders, see the link below.
