WIDGEON & THE NEST
Luxury waterfront lodge for 8 with sauna and hot tub, and architect-designed sleep annex

Widgeon & The Nest is our most exclusive waterfront lodge here at Lochend Chalets. Widgeon lodge, plus its neighbours, Teal and Mallard, have all been extended towards the lake with huge glass sliding doors framing the water, hills and mountains beyond. It really is picture-perfect Scotland. Widgeon has a larger footprint than the other chalets and lodges, with the super-cool modern Nest annex, a sleek private double room on high, with the best bed views ever.

“Waterfront lodges right on the Lake of Menteith”
Our three Waterfront Lodges – Widgeon, Teal and Mallard – have all been extended towards the lake with huge glass sliding doors showing of the spectacular view over the lake toward Ben Lomond and the Menteith Hills.
Widgeon & The Nest has had a sleek contemporary makeover, along with its neighbours Teal and Mallard. These are the three joined waterfront lodges right down at the water’s edge. Flooded by light, they have airy and bright Scandi-minimalist interiors, softened by huge corner sofas, sheepskin bar stools, Chris’s handcrafted wooden tables and squishy rugs. Arty design touches – birch branch hangers, hand-made lights, colourful cushions – add a touch of fun; vast floor-to-ceiling windows bring the stunning lake landscape in.
Our two-storey lodges each have their own Bannockburn-Whin stone patio right by the lake, with larch picnic tables – made by my husband, Chris – ideal for drinking up the views on long summer evenings. Widgeon has a few more special added extras, too: a separate one-bedroom designer annex with sauna and cedar hot tub (for use until 10pm). It’s called The Nest and has given Widgeon an extra, ultra-romantic bedroom, so that it now sleeps 8. Widgeon also features a sheltered outside window seat for slumbering in the sun. Bliss.
Widgeon & The Nest and its neighbours (Widgeon lodge sits on the end of 3 joined lodges, Teal in the middle, and Mallard on the other end) all have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors for easy indoor-outdoor holiday living. Friendly ducks chunter happily at the water’s edge. We can supply duck food if you want to become pals with them.
A goodie bag of local Scottish produce welcomes you to Widgeon & The Nest accommodation. You’ll find a Nespresso machine and all mod cons in the kitchen.
Widgeon & The Nest waterfront lodge has a new modern kitchen with sheepskin bar stools for pulling up to the stylish kitchen island, and unit handles crafted by Chris from a beech tree that once stood by the lake.
A funky toaster, kettle, Nespresso machine, cafetiere, scales and hand blender are all provided, plus all the utensils and pots and pans you could need for a group of 8.
A large fridge/freezer, hide-away recycling, dishwasher, oven and microwave are all integrated and the hob has an extractor fan. The washing machine and Victorian pulley are hidden away in a wee laundry cupboard/drying room.
Widgeon & The Nest has a luxurious open-plan space for living and dining, overlooking the lake, through large panoramic windows, with corner sofa, large wall-mounted flat-screen TV, UE Bluetooth speaker and a sycamore topped dining table, handmade by my husband Chris.
All our accommodation is individually decorated, and Widgeon is bright and fresh, styled in subtle greys with splashes of colour. A wee reading sofa sits in its own spot, backed by specially designed wallpaper featuring silver birch branches to reflect the trees outside.
It’s a comfortable and communal space to hang out with your group of up to 8, with plenty of corners to relax in or chat away. One of the great pleasures of our waterfront accommodation is simply sitting and watching the changing lake-scape outside your huge glass sliding doors.
Each Waterfront Lodge has one downstairs twin and one upstairs king and one super king. The downstairs twin features modern tartan carpets and wee splashes of art that have caught my eye. Upstairs, the woodland-view back bedroom has a king bedroom, en-suite shower and loo (and in Widgeon’s case, a four-poster with sparkling fairy light canopy and a fluffy sheepskin chair); the front bedroom has a super-king ‘zip and link’ that can be changed to two full-sized singles if requested, plus a large flat-screen TV and endless views over the water to Ben Lomond.
Widgeon & The Nest has three bathrooms, plus a changing room with shower opposite the sauna, which is below The Nest. In the main lodge, the downstairs bathroom has a Jacuzzi bath, and upstairs, there’s an en-suite shower room and loo. For those sleeping in The Nest, there is a loo and handbasin, plus the shower by the sauna.
Bathrooms come with our favourite Arran Aromatics shower gel and body lotion.
There is space for 1-2 cars at the back of each waterfront lodge. If you are arriving in more cars, please let us know in advance.
Egyptian cotton bed linen, towels, tea towels, eco cleaning products, and all heating and electricity are included in the price of your stay.
Also, on arrival, you will find fair-trade tea, coffee and sugar in your accommodation, as well as salt, pepper, milk and Tunnock’s treats plus a few pods for the Nespresso machine.
An optional ‘End of Stay Clean’ for Widgeon & The Nest lodge costs £70. Ask us about this when you book.
