CORMORANT CHALET
Peaceful traditional-style self-catering chalet for 6 by the Lake of Menteith

Cormorant is a lovely detached A-frame chalet sitting beside the wee wildlife-rich burn that runs out of the Lake of Menteith. It’s just a few meters from the lake’s edge, and a peaceful haven, with the soft sound of running water to lull you to sleep at night, and views across the lake to the hills beyond to enjoy by day.

“Luxurious self-catering by the Lake of Menteith”
No more than 15 metres back from the lake, Cormorant is a two-storey “A” Frame Chalet with stunning picture window views from the open-plan kitchen and lounge – and upstairs bedroom – over the Lake of Menteith.
Tucked away beside a wee burn that runs out of the Lake of Menteith towards the Forth, Cormorant is probably the best chalet at Lochend for peaceful wildlife spotting. Early morning along the burn is your best chance of seeing an otter. The corner of the lake in front of the chalet is also a favourite haunt of our resident heron. Watch out for the lake’s famous ospreys, which fish in the trout-rich water in spring and summer, too.
The patio on the grassy bank between chalet and lake has a picnic table with heather beds on either side. With bird feeders and nesting boxes all around, wildlife is most definitely on your doorstep… a happy clan of ducks included.
Cormorant chalet is our most traditional cosy-cottage style accommodation. The interior is all warm natural-wood tones, with a friendly circular table for up to 6, and sink-in leather sofas for relaxing.
The downstairs bathroom has a whirlpool Jacuzzi-style bath, and upstairs, Cormorant’s USP is its wee balcony off the main bedroom, with room for two chairs for a morning coffee or sunset glass of wine.
Cormorant chalet, here at the end of the row, has a peaceful set-apart atmosphere, and we find many of our returning families pick it specially for its old-school cosy comfort.
The kitchen workstation in Cormorant chalet has a lovely view out to the lake, so whoever’s on dinner can enjoy the scene while they cook.
The well-equipped fitted kitchen has fridge, freezer, dishwasher, electric hob and oven, microwave, Dualit toaster and kettle, Henkel knives (thanks for the tip Nick), scales, food processor, Nespresso machine, washer/dryer, and all the utensils and pots and pans you need for a group of 6.
As with all our lakeside accommodation, views are everything in Cormorant chalet. The open-plan lounge has leather sofas for comfy staring out over the lake. The sliding glass doors are ideal for indoor-outdoor living on warm days, perfect for pottering about by the water’s edge, or sitting with a coffee at the picnic table on the patio, or swinging gently in the big cushioned egg chair with a book.
There’s a large flat-screen TV, Bluetooth speaker for use inside, circular dining table, and lots of handmade bits and pieces produced right here at Lochend, such as the coffee table, made by my husband, Chris.
Cormorant chalet has three bedrooms: two upstairs, one downstairs. The downstairs bedroom is a twin room overlooking the forest at the back of the chalet. Upstairs, there are two cosy double rooms with Kingsize beds, one with French windows onto a mini balcony with fabulous views over the lake towards Ben Lomond, the other across the landing looking out onto the forest.
Beds are all made up with fresh high-quality Egyptian cotton linen for your arrival.
There is one downstairs bathroom in Cormorant, with a whirlpool Jacuzzi-style bath and power shower. It’s perfect for long bubbling soaks after a Trossachs walk.
Our favourite Arran Aromatics shower gel and body lotion are included.
There are spaces for a couple of cars at the back of Cormorant chalet. Let us know if you need more space.
Egyptian cotton bed linen, towels, tea towels, eco cleaning products, washing powder, dishwasher tabs and all heating and electricity is included in the price of your stay.
Also, on arrival, you will find fair-trade tea, coffee and sugar in your Lochend accommodation, as well as salt, pepper, milk, Tunnock’s treats, and a few coffee pods for the Nespresso machine.
An optional ‘End of Stay Clean’ for Cormorant A-frame chalet costs £50.
Ask us about this when you book.
