My name is Susan and I’m the founder of State of Balance – Holistic Services and Retreats.
I’m in my mid-50s and currently navigating the journey of perimenopause while balancing work and family life. My personal experiences have deepened my understanding of the importance of wellbeing, rest, and supportive spaces where we can reconnect with our inner peace and joy.
My professional background began in early years education, and for over 25 years I have worked within the holistic wellbeing industry. During this time I have trained in a wide range of complementary therapies including Anatomy & Physiology, Aromatherapy, Crystal Therapy, Reiki Level 2, Swedish Massage, Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian massage), Hot Stones, Holistic Facials and the Massage in Schools programme. I am also an Organic Neal’s Yard consultant.
For 10 years I ran a successful home-based holistic therapy practice with a loyal client base built largely through word of mouth. Alongside this I continued my professional development, expanding my work into trauma-informed healing modalities including Mindfulness, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Polarity work and other self-healing practices.
I later trained as a Seasonal Yoga teacher incorporating Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tai Chi, seasonal living, Pranayama breathwork, Yoga Nidra and meditation. More recently I qualified in Drum Reiki, using the shamanic drum as a healing tool to help balance the body’s natural energy. I have also studied sound healing and incorporate intuitive sound instruments within my sessions.
I absolutely love facilitating one-to-one and group sessions that support people experiencing burnout, stress and anxiety, or anyone seeking rest, tranquillity and reconnection with themselves.
My sessions and retreats combine mindfulness, workshops, yoga, energy work, Tai Chi, EFT and sound healing to encourage deep relaxation and restoration. The intention is to gently support the nervous system and help people reconnect with their natural state of wellbeing.
Today I facilitate both day and residential wellbeing retreats, as well as gentle restorative yoga for balance and healing, focusing on mobility, strength and calming the central nervous system.
My sessions are nurturing, informative and often transformative, creating a sense of calm, connection and renewal. They are especially suited to those seeking rest, rejuvenation and a gentle return to balance.
My intention is always to create warm, welcoming and inclusive spaces where there is no pressure or expectation — simply come as you are, take what resonates and leave the rest.
If you feel I could enhance your visit to Lochend, please feel free to get in touch.
Warmly,
Susan
