“Luxurious self-catering by the Lake of Menteith”

All but dipping a toe in the Lake of Menteith, our luxurious, larch-clad “A” frame lodge, Heron, was recently totally renovated bringing a modern, minimalist, Scandinavian cool to Lochend.

Vast, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors bring the outside in, flooding the lounge and master bedroom with stunning views of the lake and mountains. It’s hard to imagine a better view from any self-catering accommodation in Scotland!

Open-plan, and full of quirky, handmade design touches – bare light bulbs hang from antlers above the dining table, a birch branch forms the clothes rail in the downstairs bedroom, a boot jack has been made by my pa, Jimmy, using old floorboards – Osprey and Heron are our two most luxurious lodges and we provide a Goodie Bag with local and Scottish produce. Both have a Nespresso machine, steam shower and free-standing bath tub.

Both Luxury “A” Frame Lodges have a patio area surrounded by heather beds on the grassy bank between chalet and lake, with a picnic table and chairs, bird feeders and nesting boxes in the Scots pines all around, and armies of friendly ducks chuntering for duck food.

The Luxury “A” Frame Lodges both have handmade kitchen units with beech trim sourced from the same giant tree from which my husband, Chris, made the dining table. The kitchens have fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, electric hob and oven, microwave, Dualitt toaster & kettle, Henkel knives (thanks for the tip Nick) scales, food processor, Nespresso machine, and all the utensils you need.

Downstairs, the large open-plan kitchen/lounge has limed oak floorboards and a large slate grey corner sofa, with 4.5 metre floor-to-ceiling windows offering incredible views over the lake towards Ben Lomond and the Menteith Hills. Just back from the window, a large dining table has been made by my husband, Chris  from an ancient beech tree that used to tower above the jetty; on the other side of the room, a cosy alcove with beanbags is already hugely popular as snug kids’ computer den, with usb ports and a UE bluetooth speaker.

Our Luxury “A” Frame Lodges have three bedrooms: two upstairs, one downstairs. The downstairs bedroom is a twin room overlooking the forest at the back of the chalet; upstairs, the cosy double room with Kingsize bed has French windows onto a Juliet balcony with wonderful views over the lake, while a second Kingsized bed room across the landing looks out onto the forest where the oak that Chris made the bed came from.

Beds are all made up with fresh linen for your arrival.

There are two bathrooms. Downstairs, the bathroom has a steam shower and a free-standing bath. Lying directly below a huge sky light, this is perfect for candlelit soaking looking up at the stars. The upstairs bathroom is smaller, with toilet, sink and shower.

There are spaces for a couple of cars at the back of each Luxury “A” Frame Chalet.

Bed linen, towels, tea towels, eco cleaning products, washing/dishwasher powder and all heating and electricity is included in the price of your stay. Also on arrival, you will find fair-trade tea, coffee and sugar in your accommodation, as well as salt, pepper, milk, Tunnock’s teacakes and wafers and few pods of coffee for the Nespresso machine.

An optional ‘End of Stay Clean’ for a Luxury “A” Frame Lodges costs £50.

1 kingsize double, 2 twins; 2 bathrooms, including bath and steam shower; dishwasher, washer/dryer; Freeview, DVD, CD, iPod/mp3 dock; free Wifi; patio furniture; Nespresso machine. All heating, electricity, bed linen, towels included; limited cots and high-chairs free on request.

5 star review  The best money can buy! The view is amazing, peace and quiet ( apart from the local ducks ) and so much variety to the accommodation, you will be back to try out the other huts and chalets! Plus a famous Chef school and bike track too
