TOURING DAYS IN SCOTLAND FROM LOCHEND
OBAN
The pretty harbour town of Oban, little bay in Gaelic, is a very lovely 2 and a bit hour drive from Lochend. Passing by the Green Wellie Stop and the Gold Mine at Tyndrum, skirting round the edge of the beautiful Loch Awe and passing, or stopping, at the mysterious Cruachan power station hidden in the mountain (all very James Bond!) Oban is often known as the gateway to the islands as this is where you can catch the ferry to Mull, Iona, Kerrera and many others. Mull is a short crossing that, if it’s on your wish list, can be done in a day!
‘Gateway to the Islands’ or ‘Seaford capital’
Staying in the town though seafood and/or Fish and chips really should be dined on. We love to get a bag of Fish and chips and find a spot at the harbour and what the icon cal mac ferries be industrious. I love that it has a Waterstones bookshop but also has a wonderful wee music shop where my son bought a concertina en route to Tiree one holiday.
And a wool shop and a great visitors centre and a centrally located distillery!
Walk up to the classical McCaig’s Folly (15 minutes from main street) or along the shore to Dunollie Castle or bob about in a boat seeking Puffins!
