What’s On Locally May 2023

Hand-picked local events, by the Lochend team, based on things we love! 😍

1st May – Bronwynne Brent an American singer songwriter appearing at Edinburgh Trad Festival, which runs from 28.4.-8.5.23. She’s a hot new talent and touring Scotland, Traverse Theatre, 6.30pm Tickets £11/13

5th & 6th May – Ullapool Book Festival – events mostly in the village hall rather than the rather wonderful Ceilidh Place but I imagine several events will end up there as it’s a bit of a literary hub! This would be a committed day to visit that far north but what a journey!!

8th May – following on from the above and part of the festival…if you’ve never ceilidh danced before and fancy a family friendly bash with instruction then pop over to the Storytelling centre at 1.30pm. It’s free but ticket so same email as above.

14th May….thought to the end of summer!

The Highland Games

These amazing events all have a particular local flavour and the first of the year is in Gourock (an hour and 15 from here) but there is pretty much one a week throughout the season and as we’re in central Scotland, almost always an accessible one to have that experience….watch the infamous caber being tossed!

Prices vary for each but that can all be seen here…

As a city is has long supported a cultural commitment to classical music but the arts festival encompasses all sorts of interesting and diverse arts disciplines…from classical concerts to stand up events.
